Iran’s missile attack on Tel Aviv is the direct result of Benjamin Netanyahu’s reckless provocation in his determination to drag the world into a Middle East war. In recent weeks he has continued bombing Gaza and the West Bank, as well as bombing Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon. Today Israel began an invasion of the south of Lebanon. The British government must demand the de-escalation of the conflict, promote negotiations, and ensure this happens by immediately ending arms sales to Israel.
It is difficult to see how the Israeli prime minister’s series of criminal attacks on Lebanon, including the device explosions which killed and maimed thousands, culminating in the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrullah, were not intended to achieve a strong response from the Iranian government.
Israel is the only country in the region that has invaded every one of its neighbours. It has broken more UN resolutions than any other state.
This is what is driving a regional war. Meanwhile, Britain and the US continue to allow Netanyahu to use their weapons to commit genocide in Gaza and Lebanon.
The anti-war movement will intensify our work against war and in solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon. We will be on the streets of London again this Saturday demanding an end to the Gaza genocide, for hands off Lebanon and for an end to the arming of Israel.
We are at a very dangerous time for the Middle East, and for world peace. We need to escalate our opposition to all Western imperialist state wars.
